The Giant Claw

Another Friday with no one in the office and nothing to do. Normally I’d just go to hulu and watch some tv shows I’d missed, but I currently have no speakers and no head phones. So I wandered around and here’s some of the things I found.
My first stop was, of course, Google. I found out that it’s the 30th anniversary of Pac-Man. You can play right from Google itself. It’s hard to believe that Pac-Man has been around for 30 years. I was 8 when it came out. How many hours were spent moving the little man around eating dots and running from ghosts? Many.
Here’s a list of some other sites that entertained me for at least a couple minutes this afternoon. Some may be worth only a single visit, others could amuse on a daily basis. Check them out and decide for yourself.

This article starts out talking about weird places that people have had sex. Quickly, however, it starts talking about librarians. Not about their interest in books, but weird places that Librarians have had sex. Not what I was expecting. Apparently a survey was conducted, of 5,000 librarians, on their sex habits.
In 1992, Will Manley ran this sex questionnaire for his humor column in the Wilson Library Bulletin, and was fired because of it. Check out his survey here to see if you agree with this action.
Times are tough. Living expenses are rising. Trying to feed an average family of 4 could be overwhelming. Look no further. Angel Food Ministries are here to help.
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides food relief and financial support throughout the US. Menus vary month to month and anyone can purchase the food. A medium-sized box of food costs around $30 and will typically feed a family of 4 for a week. The food is the same quality you would purchase in a grocery store. There are no damaged or out-dated items.
Orders are placed once a month, either online or in person. Food is delivered to a local drop-off point the next week where you can pick up your order during the designated hours. Check out their website to learn more and to place your order. Next order deadline is May 13.
Know of a family in need? Order an extra box or two and donate to your local food bank, or deliver them yourself.
When I was growing up, my dad was a hugh Garfield fan. He pasted his love of the cat on to me. More than one year his fathers day gift consisted of a collection of Garfield comics. We spent hours reading, laughing and sharing our favorite ones with each other.
A co-worker just showed me this site: http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/ It’s basically Garfield comics with Garfield removed. Some are hilarious. Some are stupid. Most are just funny. The expressions on Jons face as he talks to ‘himself’ are priceless.
One of my favorites: http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/post/26753872
Nearly 6,000 people died in 2008 because of people talking on their cell phone or texting while driving. That’s the number that didn’t make it. Many, many more people were involved in accidents that lived. The lucky ones walked away unharmed. The rest are living with the aftermath of life changes injuries or the death of loved ones, all of which could have easily been avoided.
Research shows that talking on a cell phone quadruples your risk of an accident. Someone who’s drunk at a 0.08 blood alcohol level has a four-time crash increase. So talking on a cell phone is about the same as driving drunk. Texting increases the risk still. When you’re texting, the crash risk goes up to eight times.
Join thousands of Americans and take the No Phone Zone pledge today. Waiting 15 minutes to read/answer a text will not be the end of the world, but the distraction of reading/answering one could be. Visit oprah.com to learn more.
I’m in the process of moving the site to a new server so things might be dicey for a short time. If all goes right, you shouldn’t notice anything but normality. Here’s hoping for normal.
Cool little app for your phone at gowalla.com. Now I don’t have an iPhone, but if I keep finding interesting apps like this, I may have to invest in one. Maybe it’s not a great app, but since I can’t try it out, I’ll just have to assume. If you do happen to try it, let me know what you think.
